Use of diabetes drug curbed

Rosiglitazone (Avandia - brand name) - Yet another drug that increases the risk of heart attack. In Europe, Avandia has been withdrawn from the market in the US, to severely control its use, after a 3 year review of its heart attacks.

Rosiglitazone, marketed by GSK as Avandia, has been used to treat Type 2 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes
Patients with Type 1 diabetes cannot produce insulin at all.

Type 2 diabetes
Patients with Type 2 diabetes are resistant to the effects of insulin.

Insulin is a hormone that controls the amount of glucose in the blood. Rosiglitazone increases insulin sensitivity, controlling blood sugar levels and hence helps type 2 diabetic patients.
